Just Between Fronds: Where the Plants Have Eyes

My buddy, Devika, took over the Wylde Kingdom plant shop here, and named it "Just Between Fronds". Which I think is pretty cute.

She started out with pretty standard houseplants. But it IS a pixie place, so of COURSE something weird was going to happen.

Meet the Rocky Mountain Eyeris.

While I like looking at plants, it's a little weird having one that looks BACK at you.

Devika called to tell me she had two baby eyerises that were just about to open their eyes. This is quite a sight to see.

They're very pretty plants.

Sort of cute in the right light.

And the "right light" for these guys would be indirect sunlight, unless you want to buy sunglasses for your houseplants.

That's a lot of eyeballs, right there.

These two babies are on their way to Norm's Dollhouse to find new homes. Devika said that they tend to bond to their handlers, so she wanted to get them on their way quickly.

But I think it's more likely Devika might bond with THEM and not want to sell them.

Either way. I got looked at by a houseplant today. How was your day?

  1. These are the cutest!!! I can see how Devika is afraid to bond with them. They would look super cute with sunglasses but they have such a lovely eye, it would be shame to hide it. I do have to admit I sometimes get nervous because the cat is eyeballing my every move all day long. I don't know how comfortable I would be with these cute eyerisis in the house :-)

  2. Hey Veronique! I'll let Devika know you think her plants are cute. I think she was worried no one would love them and they wouldn't find good homes, but so far I think she's got no reason to worry.

To be honest, you can't trust a cat (believe me, I know - I think the eyerises are a little weird, watching everyone go by, but they're not like a cat.

They won't get your house eaten by termites, anyway.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting! I've really been enjoying your blog! I'm so glad to have "met" you! Yaay internet! :)

  3. I LOVE them! If eyes are the windows to the soul, then they are the sweetest plants ever! I can't wait to get lost in their eye! LOL

  4. Hmm, interesting! Very interesting.
Who needs a security camera when you can have a watchful plant! I think Devika definitely has a unique product to sell. A little unnerving, but intriguing at the same time.

  5. Hey Lori! They are pretty sweet. Devika said that she had a batch headed to Virginia, so that must be to you! They're not quite ready yet (I don't think she ships them until they've got at least one eye open) but soon. I think you'll like them. I hadn't thought about the "windows to the soul" thing, but they are kind of nice plants. I dunno, they have a peaceful look in their eyes. Or something. I dunno. I can't wait to hear what you think of them.

Hey Isabelle! Yeah... watching the babies open their eyes is both one of the most awe inspiring and one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. But they're growing on me (*rimshot*) I guess. They're kind of cute. They become less unnerving as you're around them more, I guess. Like some humans feel about pixies, now that I think about it!

  6. Hello from Spain: these plants are very original. Nice .. Keep in touch

  7. Hey Marta!

I think so too. We've certainly never had anything like them in the Kingdom before! I'm glad you like them! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  8. LOL! Cute! Love the name f the shop and the new plants. I hope Devika can manage to keep her EYE on them! hehehe!

  9. LOL Brilliant plants and story. I giggled all the way through seeing each plant looking back at Devika, and the sunglasses comment was ROTFL!!! Great story and truly brilliant idea!

  10. Are these real ????

  11. How can I go about purchasing a plant?

    1. Hi Cheryl!

You have good timing! The Eyerises are making a comeback! They're not up on the web yet, but they WILL be on this page here - and for more details about them and the other crafty kinds of things I do, I have another blog here -

I'm glad you like them. It's been a while since they've seen the sunlight. It's about time Eyerises were back out in the world, I think. :)

      All the best,
